Meet the Magnetic Force Tank
This slinky, summery tank top is my first ever foray into the world of knitwear design! Inspired by the gorgeous draped necklines that seem to be all the rage in silky formalwear, I'm happy to have achieved a similar shape in this knit tank top.
Get ready for a classic, easy to layer piece that is perfect for any summer occasion! The eye-catching cowl neckline will make you a magnetic force at any event. Dress this top down with a pair of jeans, or tuck it into your favorite skirt for an easy date night look.
Construction & Fit
The Magnetic Force Tank is knit in the round from the bottom up until the underarms, then the front panel is knit flat. Strategic increases and German short rows give the top its signature draped neckline. I love this design because there is no seaming! Even the delicate i-cord straps are grafted to the back using the kitchener stitch or a three-needle bind off.
Designed with 1-3" [2.5-7.5 cm] of positive ease built in, this top should skim over all the right places without being too form-fitting. If you're between sizes, I recommend sizing down for a neutral-ease fit!
Choosing Your Yarn
My sample was knit up with Lion Brand Truboo, a 100% rayon from bamboo fiber. This yarn is slippery and a little finicky, but the drape is absolutely incredible and makes the process so worth it.
If you can't get your hands on Truboo, be sure to find another plant-based fiber like bamboo or cotton to achieve the same drape. My test knitters who used wool or acrylic fibers found that the neckline was stiff, even after blocking.
For sizes XS (S, M, L, XL)(2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL) you will need 2 (2, 2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 3, 4) skeins of Truboo or approximately 298 (344, 394, 446, 500)(556, 614, 675, 738) yards [272 (314, 360, 407, 457)(508, 562, 617, 674) meters] of another DK weight, category 3 yarn.
Choosing Your Size
To choose your size, find your bust measurement below. Positive ease is already built into the pattern, so there are no calculations on your part!

Difficulty
This is an intermediate knit, but I have linked tutorials to help an adventurous beginner!
You'll need to know how to: cast on, knit in the round, knit flat, increase, decrease, knit German short rows, knit an i-cord, and bind off.
Notions & Needles
Stitch markers (1 a different color for BOR), scissors, stitch holders or scrap yarn, tapestry needle, measuring tape
Size US 6/4mm 20-36" [50-90 cm] circular needles, or any needle size to obtain gauge. Bamboo or wooden needles are great for slippery yarn!
